UNDERSTANDING THE INJURY

More Than Just a Bruise

Soft tissue injuries affect muscles, ligaments, and tendons rather than bone — strains, sprains, and contusions common after an accident, a fall, or overexertion. They can be easy to underestimate, but they can also take real time to heal properly if not addressed.

Chiropractic care for soft tissue injuries focuses on restoring normal movement and reducing strain on the surrounding area while it heals. See our full list of conditions we treat for related injuries.

How These Injuries Heal

Strains (muscle or tendon) and sprains (ligament) are often graded from mild overstretching to a partial or complete tear, and that grade — not just how much it hurts right now — is a big part of what determines the right approach and a realistic timeline. Tissue healing generally moves through an early inflammatory phase, a repair phase as new tissue forms, and a longer remodeling phase as that tissue regains strength and flexibility, which is why rushing back to full activity too soon can set healing back.

Our exam looks at the specific structure involved, how severe the injury is, and how it’s affecting your movement, then builds a plan around that — early on that often means reducing strain on the area and encouraging safe movement, shifting toward restoring full strength and range of motion as healing progresses.
